Major Stone Half Marathon 2008
Race report by Howard Cross

Just look at the cakes behind our runners registering!

8 September 2008

Sunny Sunday brought a reprieve of the wet and soggy weather at Lockington where the Major Stone Half Marathon took place. Webbed feet were clad with running shoes and over 200 runners set out to round the course as fast as they could, as the worrying fact that the home baking on display at registration would be all gone!

The race was won outright by Simon Batesman of East Hull Harriers in 70:34. Denis Speck was first back for Pocklington in 13th place 81:44. Paul Tatterton enjoyed the race in 84:15. Helen Cross ran a good race despite taking a tumble at 10 miles so, carrying a few battle scars, she still took the ladies race by over six minutes, an excellent effort. Clive Read made the course look easy finishing in 97:26, closely followed by the ever improving Paul Holmes in 100:05.

Alison Thornton joined myself round the course in a fantastic PB time of 103:02 and Sue Vicary came through the finish in 127.06.

All Pocklington Runners earned their right to own “Major Stone Half Pink T-shirts”, and a taste of the home baking and an excellent cuppa, on offer at the finish to this fantastically organised and locally supported Half Marathon.

Helen Cross, taking first lady Prize. Alison Thornton and Sue Vicary helping to bring in the second place ladies team prize to Pock. That was LADIES Team for anyone, who is confused.

Well done to all. More reports will follow soon!
