Pocklington Runners Dominating 2008 York and District Road Race League!

These races are a very important part of our race calendar, not only do they play a massive part in promoting Pocklington Runners, but it gives Pocklington the chance to show the rewards from all the hard training the club have put in to race against other clubs in the region in the five race series over the10k distance.

The start of the competition was held at Pocklington with our own Tom Danby taking first place in 34:26. Dennis Speck followed his remarkable running season in fifth place in a time of 36:36.

Simon Richardson, Ed Rawlings, Steven Woods, Paul Tatterton , Kev Norman, Richard Ginn and Jim Holding all ran excellent times - well under the forty minute mark.

Paul Tatterton, making his Pock Runners debut ran a fantastic race in 39:18 and came twenty first overall - what a fantastic start!

Helen Cross for the ladies team came in third, with Jill Dowson and Sue Vicary coming home in excellent times.

Tadcaster Harriers held round two of the series at Tadcaster. A more challenging course but, again, the competition was blown away by Pocklington's Tom Danby, who won in a very impressive time of 33:51 - two whole minutes ahead of second place Johnny Parsons of Tadcaster Harriers. Helen Cross, again, coming back to form in 3rd place in the ladies race in a time of 39:18 .

Pocklington had nine of its thirty four runners in the top twenty five and, for the first time in this competition and club history, Pocklington Runners “A” team now lead the series open male, open team race, and Male 50 categories outright, leaving the previously dominating York clubs behind.

Easingwold Running Club held round three of the competition. The course, as ever, a challenge, saw Pocklington Runners hold on to the top positions, and maintain their domination of the series. Tom Danby again reigning supreme in first position in a time of 34:14.  Dennis Speck came fourth overall in 36:15. Helen Cross was second lady in 39:29, now placing Pocklington's ladies team in third place in the competition s league tables.

The next race is to be held at Bishop Wilton on 17 June 2008 at 7.30 pm starting from the playing fields. The race route goes around the village, up the big hill to Garrowby top , down to Givendale where it turns right towards the show ground and returning back to Bishop Wilton playing fields for the finish.

We hope to have good support and see Pocklington Running Club be crowned Champions of the York and District Road Race 2008.

The results are as usual all on the John Schoffield Results website.
