Welton Cross Country 2008
Race report by Howard Cross

On a very cold but absolutely wonderful sunny cross country Sunday morning, it was the turn of Goole Vikings Running Club to host the Welton stage of the East Yorkshire Cross Country Championship.
The course was pretty challenging in places and the icy conditions made the race more challenging than usual. Jack Frost played a part in a disappointing turn-out for the race by the usual cross country team, the ladies team in particular, but the runners who did make the journey held out and the competitive side of Pock Runners shone through.
Dennis Speck with a very impressive effort reigned supreme over our very own Ed Rawlings with a very respectable 4th place, with a time of 33.42. He was only two minutes behind the winner Darren Williams of Beverly A/C. Ed Rawlings who tasted victory on his previous race at Thixendale for Pock Runners, had a fantastic run and came home in 33.50 a well deserved fifth place, well done Ed.
Hot on his heels was Kev Norman who looked good and comfortable with his signature shades on came in 27th place in a time of 36.57.
Patrick Piggott who had his family support, was next to whiz past myself with the camera, in 48th place with a excellent time of 40.33, very well done Patrick!
Marcus Bourne was next to pass the finish line with a very good effort as always to finish in 74th position with a time of 45.39.
Well done to all our runners on a day when the conditions were tough, but Pock Runners remain defiant in being up there at the sharp end of the East Yorkshire Cross Country!!
