Yorkshire Wolds Half Marathon 2008
Race report by Howard Cross
19 July 2008
Bishop Wilton Show was the start as usual for this tough and very challenging annual event. The weather was near perfect for this race and Pocklington Runners had a tough team out to tackle an equally tough course.
After pulling horse boxes and cars out of the showfield with his bare hands amongst other tasks on the show day, Tom Danby kept Pock Runners up at the front for most of the race but eventually had to settle for third place, finishing in 78:17, just behind the winner P Tallents of Retford Athletic Club in 77:12.
Denis Speck had a remarkable run cruising home in eighth place in 83:20 closely followed by Paul Tatterton, who ran his very first half marathon in an excellent 87 minutes. Jim Holding cruised around in 90:58 with Ed Rawlings keeping his time down to 92:14. Warwick Anderson, who is on the brink of veteran status, ran a great race in 93:28.. I myself ( Howard Cross), stuck to the marathon program and enjoyed a very strategic 99:18 and really could have gone around again!!!
Clive Reid jogged around in 104:30 and Alison Thornton gave it her all with some mega family support and rounded the course in 107:57.
Our very own Marcus Bourne did 114:40 and just pipped Brian Perkins' 115:32 - well done to both runners. Faye Jessop kept up the good work with an excellent 118:29 and Brian Dobson battled around this tough course in 126:34. Daniel Kitchen gave it his all in 145:38 and the last Pocklington Runner to cross the line was Steph Room in 148:24.
Hats off to all the Pocklington Runners, on a weekend that brought a ladies' winner at the Walkington 10k.
The overall 1st team prize at the Wolds Half Marathon was awarded to Tom Danby, Denis Speck and Paul Tatterton.
Congratulations to Clive Reid who was placed in the vet 55 category and yet another DVD player to Tom Danby third in the Wolds Half Marathon. Denis Speck also revelling in the prizes.
