Training

Pocklington runners now hold various informal and formal training sessions throughout the week.

The official day to meet up and run is every Wednesday night

around 6.30 with the aim of setting off at 6.45pm.

Distances vary and speeds vary but you will find a group to suit you so you can choose to do anything from 3 slow miles to 12 faster and anything in-between, the choice is yours.

We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of the country and it takes no time to get into the Wolds and some fantastic terrain, and during the Summer, you can take advantage of some of this amazing scenery.

During the Winter, a 10k town route is used each week

(which can be extended to more if you want a longer run).

Summer runs become a little more varied taking in the beautiful countryside that surrounds us.

You will soon improve once we get you up into them there hills

round Kilnwick and Millington for starters.

Once a month we have away days where we meet at an agreed place, generally a pub,

and go for a run followed by something to eat and a drink.

There are also several functions held on Wednesday nights such as quizzes, meetings,

presentations and other fund raisers when food is done for those who require it.

The overall weekly training opportunities are as follows:-

Mondays

This is known as our 'Speed Session' although the term is loosely meant. We meet at the Rugby Club once again although currently the facilities aren't available. Meet time is again around 6.30pm with a view to running at 6.45pm. As a group, runs vary from week to week with hill reps, fartlek, short loops, longer loops being done. The 'speed' element is totally dependent on how fast or slow you want to do these little tests at. No-one is going to shout at you and tell you to run faster. It is all up to you.

Sundays

We meet at the West Green Car Park nearest the Doctors at 8.00am for runs of varying distances depending on who turns up. Sunday's turnout can be affected depending on Races and events the night before so it is best to put a feeler out or check on the social media site Pocklington Runners as to what is happening. Times sometimes vary and there may be 2 or 3 runs at different times.
